baby belly cast

Posted on July 16th, 2012 by mountain girl  |  8 Comments »

On Wednesday, with 3 weeks till my due date, my midwife and I made a belly memory cast.

Zia handed the plaster of Paris strips to Kristine to wet and shape to my Crisco-covered belly. The baby wasn’t quite sure what was going on, and gave me a couple of good kicks as if to say, “Hey, it’s getting dark and tight in here–what’s up with that?”

We are still working on sanding and priming it with gesso. More photos once it’s painted and finished!

Oh how I wish I’d done this a million years ago! Such a lovely reminder. Life for you has been busy and wonderful! Good luck with the next three weeks!

Thank, Melissa! I made one when pregnant for Zia, and it’s fun to compare the two and see the similarities and differences in the “bellies”.

Oh thanks for sharing. I did a cast when I was pregnant with Zinnia and I love it. Looking forward, as you mentioned, to seeing the differences with the two belly casts. I think this baby and Z are positioned about the same but my body feels much different.

Yes, my second pregnancy feels much different too! So much so that I didn’t realize how much the same I carried both babies until seeing the casts together.

That looks like such a fun idea! Can’t wait to see it finished.
