butterfly bag

Today I’m showcasing a bag I designed earlier in the season. On our last trip to NM, I found myself packing my clothes into a reusable grocery bag, of all things. It finally dawned on me that Lady Bagmaker herself has no bag to call her own. So, out came the sewing machine and some scraps from the fabric shelf. I was grinning from ear to ear all the while, since it was the perfect perfectly selfish opportunity to try out some thread sketching I’d caught wind of over at Clutterpunk

Thread sketching, as the name suggests (duh) is just drawing with the sewing machine. I used red and green threads, and just “sketched” around. Being a little messy actually seems to look better than a perfect line.

I used a tight zig-zag stitch to applique the butterfly shape to the red background.

It was a toss-up as to whether the patterned butterfly fabric should be inside or outside. I finally chose the inside, but I still might make another bag with it on the outside. I like it too much.

Magnetic snap (love those things!) and pocket.

Finis.

Next bag I make for myself  will have one strap, not two. I like the simplicity of one strap better. I’ll also probably not box the bottom corners next time. I’m just more of a flared-corner girl, I think. Makes me feel classy (as if a mountain girl could be classy. Yup, I daresay there’s class even in them thar hills.)
