Zia left with Caleb on the bus for her first day of school, and it was all Mama and Boy for the rest of the day.  We made eggies and went out for a walk while it was still early.  Poor Cash–he was sure my shadow was Zia waving to him.  I had to show him the hand/shadow correlation, and he kind of got it, but it weirded him out a little, and he refused to wave at his own shadow.  Besides that, our walk was filled with squawking magpies, late summer wildflowers, and petting the funny fake deer on our driveway.

When we got back, we took a bag of extra fabric, stickers, and knitting needles to Zia’s Montessori classroom.  She greeted us from a room packed wall to wall with kids, notebooks, pencils, markers, and everything else–including a sound like a buzzing hive of bees.  There wasn’t room for us to even step inside, so we left the bag with Zia and headed back home.

On the deck, we planted spinach and lettuce in a couple of half-barrels, and Cash planted radishes in his three little pots. It’s warm and sunny outside, but Cash insisted on wearing his new Spider-man jacket for the entire planting process.  He finally got sweaty and took it off.  Actually, right now he’s stripped down and running naked on the dining room table–with the door wide open.  Good thing there’s no one around but the chipmunks and deer.  His only accessories are his amber necklace and the phone he’s giving kisses to Dadda on (or pretending to, since it’s off).

And now, between phone kisses, munching on watermelon, and catching hummingbirds that fly into the house, we’re waiting for Caleb and Sissy to come home.

Cash has seen you in every phone and airplane, but it never crossed his mind you were in his eggies! (Or maybe it did. Is that why’s he’s smiling at them?)

    Mom,
Wish you were here with your green thumb to make these seeds grow! With us they have about a 10% chance–especially with Cash spooning more dirt over them and flooding them with water every hour or two!

Looks like you had such a fun day together!! We still have three weeks before school starts so we’re trying to squeeze in that last bit of summer fun/laziness. : ) Have a beautiful Wednesday!!

Wow, three more weeks of school vacation? Actually, I think we are the early starters–the second week of August seems way too early. Didn’t school used to always start in September? I was home schooled so I’m not sure, but it seems like it was usually after Labor Day.

Yes, I guess it is…and he’s watering to his heart’s content. His plants will probably grow better than mine. 🙂
