he’s back

Caleb came home today, after being in NM for two months.  He’s bigger than ever, and we’re all so glad he’s back. I took the kids with me to pick him up.  Cash was a little afraid of him and started crying when Caleb got in the car, while Zia was dizzy with joy and handed Caleb the $2 bill she had just gotten in the mail from her uncle Seth.

David made steaks for dinner and we had a triple layer cheesecake for dessert, which we were already too full for.  Cash warmed up to Caleb and offered him a tomato–one of his favorite foods–a sure sign of friendship.

Zia had the whole evening planned out.  She had a toy crocodile in the tub to freak Caleb out (she was hoping he would faint when he saw it, but no such luck).  She had him open all his presents, which she had found or made and wrapped.  Some of them she had opened already, since she couldn’t stand the suspense.

The middle photo shows them watching Dinosaur Train, a preschool show which Caleb is obviously thrilled with.  She had it planned all day that they would watch it on my bed together.  One thing she hadn’t planned on was Cash, the resident baby techie.  He loves computers, cameras, cables, phones, CD players, and anything that plugs into the wall.  He made a beeline for the laptop and almost pulled it off the bed before she wrestled it away.

Today was almost too high-energy for everyone, but I think the next few days and weeks will level out and life will start to get back into a groove, the way it was before the boy left.
