5 pillows and a bench

I know I am over-enthusiastic about these new pillows.

I keep posing them plumped on different pieces of furniture – inside, outside, all around – and everyone is strictly prohibited from using them. Until we move, that is.

I made them in celebration of our soon-to-be new home. It seemed we should have some fresh pillows, especially since we have no couch or comfy chairs yet. (Actually, our friend Will suggested it. Will gets good ideas.)

I found some pillow forms on sale at Jo-Ann Fabrics, and dug up this batik fabric I’ve been hoarding. I was thinking I’d make a sweet new bag to replace my old one that’s in tatters, but in light of our new home, the pillows seemed a better use of fabric.

Out of 2 yards of fabric, I made 2 large pillows (backed with scrap linen), 2 medium, and 1 small.

The large 24″ pillows have an overlap closure. The openings seemed a little floppy, so I added a bit of elastic to each. It tightened them up perfectly.

The medium 16″ pillows have a zipper on one side. One of them is still in the works – I accidentally bought one zipper instead of 2 today – oops! Thus only 4 pillows are pictured.

The smallest is 13″. It was the last bit of fabric, and I stitched it up on a whim, stuffing it with some Poly-fil I had on hand. It makes a fun little addition to the pillow family.

This bench is another new addition. I found it at Hobby Lobby, marked down from $299 to $60! Never one to pass up a good deal, I told David about it, and he put the Jeep seats down and went to get it.

I like it because it’s basic and sturdy, and I think it will look great in the new house.

And it happens to look great with my new pillows plumped on top.
