Starring today on my blog is…..ta-da! my illustrious Vita-Mix blender. This is an incredible high-powered mixing machine that can chop any and all rough-and-tough veggies, blend all sorts of smoothies, shakes, and frozen treats, grind grain, knead bread, cook soup,  make instant compost and natural pesticides, break rocks (I think) etc, etc. I have had it since Christmastime last year (thanks to my very sweet and loving husband) and I use it all the time – about 3 times a day.

But without further ado, let’s begin our story….

A Day in the Life of Vita-Mix

It’s a cool November day in Kansas City. The wind is blowing, and leaves are flying everywhere. I stand at my kitchen window, feeling the chill of the morning even in the shelter of my cozy little home. Hmmm. What should I make to warm myself up- a hot cup of tea, maybe? No, something that sticks to the ribs. something creamy, maybe with a touch of sweetness…..aha! I’ve got it! A thick, warm mug of Almond Milk. No, maybe Almond Kefir. Make that Maca Almond Kefir. Ahem. Cinnamon Ginger Maca Almond Kefir, with a sugary sprinkle of stevia. Mmmmmm. Visions dance before me as this glorious creation begins to take shape in my mind’s eye.

I almost trip over my feet as I race to the fridge and pull out a bowl of freshly sprouted almonds. I open a jar on the counter and phist! a fizzy burst of kefir made of fresh raw milk greets my senses. I reach for Vitey and pop off her black rubber top. In go the kefir, almonds, a dash of cinnamon, a splash of stevia, a roasty scoop of maca, a juicy chunk of ginger root. I flip the switch: whizzzzzzz! Within seconds the jumble of ingredients becomes a creamy, mocha-colored blend. I let it run for about a minute, then place my hand against the side of the container. Ahhhh. It’s warm to the touch. The heat of this incredible motor has again risen to the task. I turn it off and pop the lid off. A gentle billow of steam rises from the frothy goodness.

I pull 2 mugs from the cupboard and fill them with the creamy sweetness. The nutty scent of maca combines with the pungent aromas of cinnamon and ginger, the perfect treat to take the edge off this crisp November day. A few drops of rain spatter against the window pane, and I take a sip. Mmmm. Warm, sweet, creamy, nutty, spicy. Dee-lish! Exactly what I had in mind.

But this is only the beginning of Vitey’s day. She goes on to grind oatmeal into flour, flax seed into meal, and a concoction of raw beets, carrots, figs, honey, coconut oil, and spices into a smooth blend to create my famous (or infamous!) beet breakfast porridge.

To clean, Vitey becomes her own dishwasher. I just fill her with warm water and 2 drops of dishwashing liquid, and run for 30 seconds to make her clean as a whistle.

(By the way, this is NOT a sales pitch – I don’t sell Vita-Mixes! But I DO recommend them…..highly!)

Ahhhh…..time to curl up with a Cinnamon Ginger Maca Almond Kefir.  Happy drooling!
