enchanted forest at mud lake

Wild Bear Ecology Center here in Nederland hosts an annual event called the Enchanted Forest. It’s held in the woods at Mud Lake, and that is where we found ourselves this weekend.

We started out in town at Wild Bear, where a certain Blue Fairy had to get some very important face painting done before we hopped on the shuttle.

Can you tell she loved every second of her makeover?

We watched a performance of the Forest Fairy.

But we all know who the real forest fairy is.

Nederland is one of those cool mountain towns just full of unique individuals. This event was the perfect chance for each one to shine, like this man walking his pet fish.

The band was called Crowspeak. I’m not sure who the little man coming out of the woods is.

There were interactive activities and crafts for the kids. We made a glittery paper hat and a ribbon skirt for Zia, she was given lots of little treats and souvenirs, and had wood-fired pizza. Caleb got in on the pizza action and a few of the treats.

I think the highlight of the event was the forest tour, where we met some local animals…

like this beaver. They all gave us some interesting facts about themselves, and talked about their lives here at Mud Lake.

There was a mountain lion

a Tiger salamander

and a bear. There were also a dragonfly and a bat.

It was a super fun event for everyone. I thought my fairy was going to fly away by the end, she was so happy.

Sounds like a fun weekend! I wish I had my face painted over the weekend. She really must be the real forest fairy.

[…] Saturday was Wild Bear’s Enchanted Forest fall celebration in Nederland.  The floods swamped Nederland last year, but we went two years ago, when Cash was just weeks old.  Our first time at the Enchanted Forest was the year before that. […]
