first dance recital

Zia had her first recital Thursday.  For the last couple of weeks she has been saying she was too scared to go on stage, but at Wednesday’s class she suddenly lost her stage fright and decided she wanted to do it.

She put together a fairy outfit and I did her hair, painted her nails (can you tell she’s being SO careful with them?) and even brushed some pink on her cheeks.  She loved the specialness of it all…

then turned back into a stomping cowgirl tomboy once we got to the dance room.

Up on stage, she seemed right at home and even gave me a little smile and wave when the curtain opened.  Our tiny community theatre was full of excited parents and twirling girls, and she seemed thrilled to be a part of it. They had a ballet performance and then a tap dance number.

It wasn’t important to me that she perform if she didn’t want to, but watching that little redheaded fairy tapping and twirling gave me a thrill. She’s my girl, that purple fairy.

Very sweet! Isn’t it such a proud feeling that you get when you watch them do things for themselves? I love watching our girls dance too. Their concert is on the 1st of December.
