This magnificent bird-thing dropped itself down into a pine just off our deck. I happened to be facing the window, and really couldn’t miss its tree-shaking landing. It stayed in the tree for a few seconds, then floated down to the ground where I’m sure it snatched up some unsuspecting woodsy snack.

It looks vulture-like here, but that is actually its right wing showing below its beak as it lifts for takeoff.
