Our tiny county held a county fair this weekend.  We went–our first time there–and milked it for all it was worth.  It took three hours to see and do just about everything.  Zia and I did the bungee trampolines and rode the mechanical bull.  She did great on the bull, but I lost contact after about 3 seconds.  Of course, they were merciless with me and turned it up full tilt.  I also practiced on a slack line for the first time, and it was really fun.  I fell off more than I stayed on, but I still loved it.

Caleb was more into the Corsair fighter plane and the fire engines than the thrilling joy rides that Zia and I liked.  We all got to ride together in a fire truck and the fireman who drove showed us the control panel and even sprayed some water from the front of the truck for us.  The county has 5 brand-new fire trucks–3 engines and 2 tenders (water trucks).  The tenders cost the county $275,000 each, and the engines were around $300, 000 each.  If my math is right, that’s one and a half million dollars–for about a dozen fires a year!  Not that I’m complaining, of course. 🙂  They are quite fancy and very user-friendly, and a single volunteer fireman can douse a fire alone from the driver’s seat of the tender we rode in.

There were free pony rides and a petting zoo with a super cute tiny baby donkey.  Zia played all the games she could and won some prizes.  Caleb got a soda that smelled like root beer and tasted like black water, poor dude.  I found a man selling handmade copper earrings and bought two pairs–they are so pretty and just my style.  Cash was really courageous and tried some things that I know were hard for him–he gripped my arm as soon as his pony started moving, and I walked beside him with his body pressed against me for the whole ride, but he never asked to get off.  He went in a tiny bouncy house and sat on all fours holding the floor tightly as Zia bounced it gently.  He is so proud of himself when he tries something new and brave–and of course I’m just as proud of him.  He did freak out a little when I went flying into the wild blue yonder on the bungee, but Caleb held him and he got over it by looking the other way, haha.

After our three hours at the fair, we came home and then walked down to play at the park.  After we walked back home and had some dinner, the kids had bathies, teeth were brushed and flossed, dishes washed and put away, laundry washed and hung up to dry, things in order to leave for church in the morning, and we cozied up to read Gentle Ben.  One more day without our Dadda–but also one more day closer to his return. 🙂

Yes, the bungee was so fun–my cheeks hurt from smiling the whole time! And Chrisy, I did have my cowboy boots with me, but had to go barefoot on the bungee. Wouldn’t want to poke holes in their trampoline. 🙂
