home is where the cupcakes are

With the addition of a strapping 11-year old boy to our family, we’re feeling the need for a little more room. Our evenings have been taken up in searching for the perfect (albeit temporary) new home.

Zia is loving the hunt. She is quite vocal about her opinion of each place, and so far none of the houses have met her color requirement (blue).

She always questions the owner/realtor along these lines: “Are you sure this house has stairs?”

Yes, so far there are always stairs. Once she tries them out, she dashes off to find the bathroom, and makes sure everything is in good working condition. Then she tests all the light switches, and so on.

In the process of our search, we’re seeing new parts of Colorado, and they are breathtaking. It seems there is hidden beauty everywhere in this state. Imagine going to sleep with this view out your window.

And, of course, bears and mountain lions out your back door.

Overall, I think, I’m looking for a place where these kids can spread out and live – someplace they can learn and explore and find both security and freedom – a place they can remember as home. A place where they shine, not where walls and furniture out-shine them. You know, a place where you can drop a piece of cake on the floor and that’s just fine.

Tonight, cupcakes are in order. Our boy comes home tomorrow!
