what a beautiful turnip

It all started with a turnip. I was pulling some for dinner (mmm…mashed turnips) and Zia picked one up. “What a beautiful turnip”, she exclaimed.

I had to take a look. Yup, it was beautiful, all right.

Leave it to a 2-year old to see the beauty in a humble turnip!

But turnips weren’t the only beautiful thing in the garden tonight.

There’s nothing like being outside again at the first hint of spring. Something in me hibernates each winter, and I feel it coming alive again when things start to thaw, when I get down and dig around in the dirt a little.

I can see my girl feels the same way.

You turn a little wild. It makes you do things that are a little crazy.

You know, like paw around at the leftover snow and ice…

and maybe even eat some.

Mmmm. What beautiful ice.
