Polly the dolly

This is a gift I made for Zia….her very first doll. She’s a nice floppy rag doll, with a simple, Waldorf-ish face- one that a little girl could easily assign smiles, laughter, tears, tantrums, even sleep to. She is made of a light peachy-brown cotton muslin, and her green eyes and watermelon mouth are hand-embroidered. She wears a soft removable cotton-knit dress I recycled from some of my own gently worn shirts, and a vest made of a scrap of burlap. The wooden buttons can be buttoned and unbuttoned by even the chubbiest fingers. Her purple cotton booties are also removable. Her hair is my favorite part. It’s made of strips I cut from a T-shirt. They curled into lovely tubular locks after washing and drying.

She is a perfect first dolly for a perfect little girl, I think.
