true gold

Can you believe it? Yesterday, February 1st, was our 50th anniversary.

Yep, we’ve been hitched for 50 golden months!

I got an extra sweet 50-month-iversary kiss while out doing some shopping: I turned on the car radio only to hear Sting’s “Fields of Gold” come wafting across the airwaves. That haunting tune, those lovely words. They had struck a chord with me throughout our engagement…you know, it was just kind of “our song”.

Funny how you forget things. Even funnier how a song can make you remember them.

Suddenly my heart (and eyes) were flooded with memories: all those times we listened to that song through that sun-kissed summer, into that fiery-golden fall. And then that day in December, cutting through the roar of my own thumping heart, as if from nowhere the gentle strains appeared again…on our wedding day. A last lovely surprise from David; it was like a stamp, a great seal placed on that chapter of our lives. Everything in our lives that had led up to that day, all bound together like a sheaf of wheat and tied with a golden strand.

I haven’t heard that song very often since then. So to hear it now, on THIS special day, was an extra-special really cool thing.

Of course, now I’m married to El Dorado himself.

And who needs fields of gold when you have a man with a heart of gold?
