the real breakfast of champions

I made the most awesome breakfast this morning!

The recipe is adapted from one of my favorite sites. It’s a raw chocolatey chia pudding sort of thing. I started by soaking 1/4 cup whole hemp seeds overnight, then blended them with a cup of water, a tsp raw honey, and a dash of cinnamon to make a creamy raw hemp milk. Then I stirred in 1/4 cup chia seeds and let it stand while I took David to work. When I got back a few minutes later, I added almost a cup of water and a tablespoon of raw cacao powder, stirred again and let it sit a minute, then tasted it. I added some nutmeg and a little Truvia to taste. It probably would’ve been better chilled, but I was too hungry to wait. It was supposed to make 2 portions, but after I divided it and ate half, I wanted the rest so much that I ate it all. It was incredibly satisfying and I feel REALLY good- much better than my usual raw yogurt/flaxmeal breakfast. Chia, hemp, and cacao are all superfoods, and so they are all incredibly rich in nutrients. Antioxidants, protein, calcium, iron, fiber, omega fatty acids, magnesium, etc, etc. SUPERFOODS! And I really do feel super! Yay! (I’ll let you know if I crash later on!)

Well, here I am, 3 hours and a brisk walk later. I have’t felt this gooooooood in a long, long time. Maybe ever. No lightheadedness, no dizzyness, no dying of thirst, no sudden feelings of near-starvation. In fact, I’m not even hungry at all. I feel completely level, even, balanced, happy, and still very satisfied.

Hmmmm. Now to find a way to get the goods affordably- since hemp, chia and cacao are not cheap items. Maybe I could try a single portion next time, though I felt as though 2 portions were perfect- not too much at all. Hey! Maybe I could grow my own! But wait, I guess we’d have to move to South America, huh? That might be easier said than done. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

I found your site from a posting you made on the Whole Foods blog when I searched their site for “chia”.
I am dying to try this right now, but first I’ve got to get the main ingredients 🙁

I found your site also looking at Whole Food recipes. I forgot what I was looking for when I saw your carob chia hemp pudding. I’ve got everything but the hemp and the Truvia. Do you think it would taste okay without the Truvia? Thanks this looks great.

Yes, it would be fine without Truvia. If you think it needs sweetness, just put in more honey or whatever else you like to use. Thanks for asking!
