unschool day hike

We joined up with the unschooling group again yesterday, this time for a hike.

We started out at Bobolink Trailhead in Boulder. The trail winds along a creek, and opens into a pool above an old dam.

It made a great place to play – especially for the boys, who made up most of the group.

There were only 3 girls besides Zia, but she didn’t mind at all. She played in this little pile of sticks most of the time. She called it her “nesting grounds”.

This giant tree hung over the water a little further along the trail.

It made a nice fishing spot for Zia and her friend Audrey. No bites, though.

We spent 3 hours on the trail and around the water – running, playing, and wading. 3 hours that otherwise could have been spent cooped up in a classroom.

3 hours, I think, that were spent much better – outside in the fresh air, moving, thinking, building, playing, living.
