juggling balls and carry bag

Papa and Mimi are coming from NY for the baby’s birth, and all Zia can talk about is Papa teaching her to juggle and Mimi teaching her to dance and twirl a baton. I’m not so sure about the baton (since I haven’t procured one yet) but dancing and juggling will definitely be in full swing.

Our latest project from Oliver + S Little Things to Sew is a set of juggling balls for the grand occasion.

The pirate monkey flannel was a half-price remnant, and we picked out coordinating scraps for the trim and balls from my scrap bin.

Zia helped with the pins and matched up 6 cut pieces for each ball while I stitched them together.

At first I was going to stuff them with fiberfill and add something weighty to the middle–rice or beans or small weights–but then I had a better idea.

I had cleaned out my fabric stash (all hail nesting instincts!) and had a bag of narrow fabric strips left from projects. They were bound for the trash, but instead we stuffed the strips into the balls and I stitched the openings shut.

It worked beautifully. The balls have a nice dense weight, perfect for tossing around.

Ready for Act I. Maybe we could even combine performances and throw a few dance steps between flying balls.

First–how wonderful that your parents (I am guessing it is your mama) will be coming for the birth… hope you get the same sweet care I have had for the past two weeks! and Second–I sure hope you post pics of this dancing juggling act!!

Yes, I can hardly wait till my parents come! We haven’t seen them in almost a year and a half.
I’ll miss seeing my 10 siblings, but I am selfishly looking forward to having Mama and Papa kiss my baby, play with my girl, and admire my husband (of course). We will sneak in all the pics we can get!
