enchanted forest at wild bear

Saturday we headed to Nederland’s fall nature festival: the Enchanted Forest.

Wild Bear Nature Center puts on the festival, and it’s really fun. Face painting is always number one on our list.

Isn’t she funny? We had to laugh every time she looked at us.

The Forest Animal Tour is the best part. We rode a school bus down to Mud Lake and walked the trail to meet the different animals, like this wolf spider.

The animals told some facts about themselves, and since they are local to our area, gave advice on what to do when you meet a real one–like a mountain lion. Make yourself big and loud, and don’t turn your back and run!

A tiger salamander. Zia had to identify this one for the group, the little smarty pants.

All the kids got goody bags, and each forest creature gave them some little token, like a pencil or a rock, to take home.

Huckleberry Finn also made an appearance.

A moose. The real ones are a bit more breathtaking, but it was nice to meet a friendly one.

Cash got very hungry toward the end of the tour so I took him back to the campfire at the trailhead. It was cold and a little snowy, so we were happy for the warmth.

Of all the woodland creatures, he’s my favorite.
